Taking the Wraps Off

During last few days the bridge painting tarps and scaffolding has been removed. Soon the ships will be entering the Duluth Shipping Canal. This video shows the project of taking down the wraps.

Topping the Tower

Workers finished enclosing the north tower of the Lift Bridge today. Rainbow Painting will now immediately start sand blasting the old lead based paint from the metal structure and apply a fresh coat of paint.

Bridge Band-aid

Band-aids aren’t usually hard to apply, but, it is a challenge to put one on a 180 ft bridge span. Scaffold Service workers are are scaling the Aerial Lift Bridge girders to construct an enclosed shelter around the north tower of the bridge for painters.

Lift Bridge Cover Up

Over the next few days, the north tower of the lift bridge will become encased in scaffolding to 180 ft and covered in poly. The work is being done by Scaffold Service, Inc St. Paul, MN. Once enclosed, Rainbow Painting Co. will begin painting the steel structure within the enclosure.
