We have an opportunity to work with Fairlawn management and the EPA to install a new camera on the turret of Fairlawn Mansion located across from Barkers Island in Superior Wisconsin.  This will provide an interesting view of the harbor that is not covered by the existing harborcams.

The 1000 ft James R Barker got caught in a summer storm as it was backing out of the Two Harbors ore docks Monday evening. This video runs until the power went out as the storm front hit. There was no damage to the Barker and it went on its way. The red smoke is actually ore dust being blown from the docks.

The installation of the new Bridg Cam is complete.  I will be doing some more tweaking with it this week, but, it is fully operational as of today.

Update: 6/7/2021

After concerns of limited camera operation in cold weather, I will be switching the Bridge cam upgrade to the same type of camera that is used for the Canal Cam, which is very reliable and of high quality. 

The image quality and compatibility will be better than the present Bridge Cam. This should be a fine upgrade, however, the pan/zoom capability which I had hoped for will not be available.

Update: 6/4/2021

I have received the new camera intended to replace the Bridge Cam.  During setup and testing this week, I discovered that the additional device used to inject audio and power the camera is not powerful enough to operate the camera in cold weather. I will be having further discussions with the manufacturer next week to see if there are any workarounds for this issue.  

While this camera would work great in this setting, I do not want to install it at the bridge locations if sound cannot be included. 

Sorry for the delay and I will keep you posted when there are further developments.

After two devastating Lake Superior storms several years back, the Duluth Lakewalk was heavily damaged. Two years and 22 million dollars later, the newly fortified Lakewalk is back and better than ever. You can see the enormous amount of work that went into the rebuild with this birds-eye view. Fundraiser for new Bridge Cam begins May 24, 2021

The Bridge Cam is the oldest camera on the system and is no longer supported or sold by the manufacturer.  I would like to replace the camera with one similar to Pier B that can look both ways if needed.

The new camera with parts will cost $2907 which is our goal.  

Some new features will include PTZ capability, high power zoom, and vibration mode to shake off rain drops.  

This camera is very similar to Pier B except it has audio capability.

It should be a quick changeout as everything is in place. I will program and install the camera as soon as we get it.
