Tales from the Harborcams - Sometimes ice fishing can be hard work
Over several hours this morning, these guys worked like crazy to get a little fishing in -- hopefully, they caught something.

Tales from the harborcams - Two Harbors Airboat 03/02/2019
I watched the Two Harbors cam on Saturday, March 2, and watched a couple men go out on the lake in an Air Boat, like they use in the Everglades. I wanted to relay the experience I had watching something so unusual. These guys worked so hard getting ready for their fishing trip and it looked like they were taking everything but the kitchen sink. I was so shocked after watching them for close to an hour when they almost "flew" out onto the lake in this Air Boat. I had to laugh thinking I would love to know what they would think about an old 85-year-old lady, who lives about 30 miles west of Baltimore, Md. had been watching this very long procedure that morning. They must be a very die-hard fisherman to go to all that trouble just to go fishing, especially in the winter time. I really enjoy all the Duluth web cams and watch them quite a lot. Especially love to watch in the summer as the big ships come into the channel. Thanks for providing such fun enjoyment.

Joy Hild

Great day for ice fishing
The Harborcam is zoomed in to an ice fishing village just off Sky Harbor Airport. Fishing must be good!

Two Harbors Ice Fishing/Breaking
These two fishermen (perhaps Sven and Ole) are the most determines guys that I have seen on the cams. Saturday morning, after chopping a place for their boat, the two were finally able to launch and break their way free onto Lake Superior.
They returned six hours later.
A good example of ice fishing and breaking when needed.

A Tough Sled
Ice fishermen struggle to get their sleds through the chunks of shore ice at Duluth's Brighton Beach.

Sunrise fishing on the Big Lake
With the boats still frozen in, fishermen are heading out on Lake Superior at daybreak to try try for the "Big One". This morning was -20F and there was no complaints about the cold, only an appreciation for the beauty.

Ice fishing on the Big Lake.
Now that the ice on Lake Superior is thickening up--Ice Fishermen are venturing out onto the big lake for the "Big Catch".
I sent the little photocopter up to take a quick look around. The fishermen are congregating off 21st Ave East, at least until the ice get's thicker further up the shore.

Sunset Ice Fishing on the Duluth-Superior Harbor
If you look on the Harborcam during the day, way down the bay, you will see a bunch of small black dots on the ice. This is the flock of Ice Fishermen that love to hit the ice as soon as it freezes up.
I stopped by at sunset to take a quick look from above with my little photocopter.

Ice fishing Lake Superior
Saturday afternoon turned out to be a cool, clear, and sunny afternoon. Perfect for doing some ice fishing along the shore of Lake Superior.
I took advantage of the weather and sent the little photocoter up for a look around at the fishermen and many portable ice houses put up to catch a few trout.
